Men’s Basic Skin Care Tips

1. Always moisturize appropriately for your skin type following shower or shave.

2. Only shave clean skin.

3. For best results, use a single edged razor (or small electric barber clippers-to minimize ingrown hairs or hair bumps) when shaving.

4. Before shaving, carefully extract any ingrown hairs with a straight pin and cleanse face thoroughly with warm water and cleanser of choice to soften hairs and for easier removal, cover face with warm damp cloth for 1-2 minutes just before shaving.

5. Always apply shaving cream or gel prior to shaving; many have used Skintament with great success.

6. After shaving exfoliate gently (with exfoliating facial sponge), to remove dead skin cells and prevent ingrown hairs or bumps (hyperkeratosis, eczema, psoriasis or other (chronic) dermatitis of the face or body should be treated by your dermatologist).

7. Periodic use of facial masks and home micro-dermabrasion kits help to keep skin smooth and supple and can be used on face and/or body. For more serious conditions professional treatment by a licensed medical professional may be required. Medical Microdermabrasion is highly recommended for all men over the age of 30 in treating enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines and minor acne scarring. If seeking laser resurfacing treatment it’s important to use a laser appropriate for your particular skin type (to avoid complications associated with cosmetic lasers). To maximize the benefits of treatments such as Medical Micro-Dermabrasion and Gentle Waves [LED], any intensive (non-cutting) dermatological skin treatments should begin by or before age 40.

8. When applying moisturizers or sunscreens to face, remember to pay special attention to ears, and front and back of neck areas. And try to use skin products with an SPF-15 or higher.
